Kind words from wonderful folks

Thank you all for your kind, inspiring, joyful words. We loved reading each note and felt like we were able to carry everyone with us while we journeyed across the country. Your thoughts are archived here; we look back on them fondly.

Read half your journal up to your wedding day, but just read the second half.  I really enjoyed your writing and taking in all the details.  You two sure are capable and experienced hikers/campers at this point!  It was a great trip and fun to participate in this way.  Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs!

What an awesome trip so far, and I've read every word and looked over every picture.  I can't wait for the next installments!  And to think, we have great wedding day photos to see as well.  Hope both of you are doing fine.  Jefferson and I returned early, happy and with knowing much more about each other, ourselves, and what we want with camping.

From: Tess

We are loving your photos and journal! Gretchen and I are thinking that we might need to schedule a trip to the Grand Canyon! This has been one heck of a trip for you both and you have created wonderful memories. Safe travels home!

Congratulations, you scorpion battling warriors!

So happy for you! It’s so nice that we can follow along on your journey with you. Truman’s writing never ceases to entertain, and that Airbnb was adorable. What a great idea to combine road trip, wedding, honeymoon - er final relationship test? All-in-one! :)

Can’t wait to celebrate in person! Enjoy.

Congratulations Carrie and Truman!!!

WOW! What an amazing wedding adventure you are having! I am really enjoying everything you are writing Truman (all smiles while I scroll). I really admire the way you've handled everything about your wedding and your trip. It's honestly heart warming and inspiring. I believe you two are going to have a great (and fun) future together. I can't wait to see more pictures, especially of the wedding. BTW, Ive hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and slept under the stars at the bottom. You will love the experience, but boy...that climb back up, phew!

LOVEXOXOXO

Carrie and Truman, Congratulations to you on finally tying the knot!  I hope the day was both fun and stress free (and with a settled stomach)! I am dying here waiting for photos and your journal entries!!! No pressure but get on it!  I love you both and I LOVE Jefferson's poem!

From: Dan & Becca

Congrats Carrie & Truman!

Becca and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together. May this trip be the first of many great memories to come! It's been a joy following your journey from afar—know that we are 100% living vicariously through you from our tiny children filled bubble in Chicago. It probably goes without saying, but enjoy the rest of your trip and travel safe.

Your friends,

The Lavin's

P.S. I look forward to more updates—particularly ones that include your wonderful urban hat.

From: Gretchen

My goodness, Carrie and Truman, what a great way to get married and have a wonderful trip of a lifetime, one of many in your future I hope!  Just think, if you were to have an encounter with a scorpion how much more impactful your honeymoon memories would be!  Ten years together, and from what I have seen, each of you has grown into mature, interesting, and interested individuals better together than apart. I wish you happiness and wonderful memories to nuture you and grow your relationship.  XXOOO   Love your writing, Truman

From: Jefferson

Love you both! Here's a poem!

If loving a person was all you could do

The ocean is blue because the sky is blue

The plants of the earth sway to their truth

A beckoning motion that's calling for you

If you had a girl that was falling for you

You'd cradle her head when she's feeling blue

You'd tell her real sweetly, 'I've been waiting for you,

the hand, the ocean, the sky, and the truth'

You'd see behind windows the man is a boy

A sweetly serious, goofy boy

'Waiting for you, I've been waiting for you

Drifting in water 'til you swam through'

A lone lost wild singing refrain

'What is your name' again and again

And seeing you sitting upon a pine log

Hoping to god that you're not a frog

If loving a person was all you could do

I'd wish in this world there was only you

The ocean, the grasslands, the mountains, the blue

Are all for each other

I am for you

Hi Carrie and Truman!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your journal just now and look forward to other entries.  Love your writing Truman!
I am totally with you about the scorpions!  They, along with other undesirable spiders lurk here in Austin.  They better never enter this house or, frankly, my path!  I am not equipped to deal with it.

I love that everything about your trip and plans you have made so special.
Bill and I wish you every happiness and appreciate being able to share in your celebration/adventure through this journal.

Sending love and early congratulations for tomorrow's big day!

From: Aunt Bev

Dear Carrie and Truman!

Best wishes for a wonderful marriage.  No advice from me (smile) but a world of support.  Enjoy your wonderful trip! Hope to see you soon.

After reading your journal up through Dolan Springs, I wanted to remind Carrie of the altitude sickness she and Matt got in Breckenridge many years ago.  Sounds like she is still bothered.  The solution is water, water water! Drink twice what you think you need.  Yosemite will be a struggle if you don't stay hydrated.  Hope that is helpful and you both have a lovely wedding day with no altitude sickness!

From: Uncle Eric and Aunt Julie Doane

Congrats to you both, Truman and Carrie! We are so happy for you! Enjoy each adventure together.
The one thing that Eric and I try to always do is use the terms "we" and "our" instead of "I" and "mine".
Blessings on your marriage,
Uncle Eric and Aunt Julie

What a great trip you are on and what a great way to look back to the time you were married !

Going through life with a companion whom you deeply love and are committed to is a gift and we both are thankful that the two of you have found each other . Truman, welcome to this wonderful family. I'm guessing by now, after 10 yrs, you know everyones names . Take good care of my niece, and hopefully as Carrie brings your slippers and rubs your neck daily, she will do so with the same smile Vera has always worn. Carrie, immense patience on Vera's part has been key to our success and though Truman may test you less due to his steady hand,  a little patience comes in handy.
Congrats, best wishes and love ..... lets celebrate together soon !   Brian and Vera

I’m late to all parties anymore.

I hope your trip out west together has been joyful. I hope the remainder of whatever transpires from this trip is as much.

Trust and love each other, and especially in the hardest times. Be a beacon for what humans can be.

Truman, You are a great writer! (I can tell it's you) I have laughed out loud a number of times and look forward to reading your daily posts. Your mom clearly has a great sense of humor. Again, I am really sorry about taking your chocolate covered pretzels! I will feel some remorse when I eat them. Love you both!
